It’s official Polka Dog friends and fans. Sunday marked the long-awaited launch of the Polka Dog Bakery Collection in Target stores nationwide! We’ve been getting all kinds of emails and posts from people far and wide sending us photos and sharing their stories of staking out their local Target for a chance to grab up some one-of-a-kind-limited-edition-get-em-while-they-last Polka Dog goodies. We love to see our customers well-heeled and sporting their new Polka Dog styles so keep those photos coming!

Here’s a tip. If you haven’t yet visited a Target nearby to stock up on the ultra fun treats and toys from the Polka Dog Collection, or any other of our collaborating shop owner’s collections for that matter, get to it. At last check, stock around the country and online was low and getting lower, so time is short and opportunity waning.

But I digress: back to the launch. And, more specifically, back the pre-launch. I mean, what would a launch be without a launch party, right? You think the folks at NASA blast a spacecube into orbit and then go have a Grand Slam at Denny’s to celebrate escaping earth’s gravitational field? Doubtful.

Neither do the folks at Target. And though we didn’t exactly break the sound barrier strapped to a pair of solid fuel rocket boosters, we did briefly hit an orbit all our own at the Shops launch party last week.

Let us set the stage for you:

First, a crazy talented designer David Stark transformed the lobby of the equally crazy cool Frank Gehry designed IAC building in the heart of Chelsea into a smorgasbord of the Shops at Target Collections.

Plates suspended knee-high as if floating on an invisible pond or Lucite coffee table…candy raining from the ceiling like an image out of Willy Wonka’s fantasies …Polka Dog Bakery collars and toys and treats dangling in a single helix like some futuristic chandelier in the ballroom of a canine only universe.

In a word: awesome.

And that, my friends, was just the beginning.

There was a red carpet. A real red carpet. Padded, with velvet ropes. The kind you see at the Oscars, though not quite as long. And on this carpet? Celebs. Real celebs. Giada, Emma Roberts, January Jones, Martha Stewart. People you read about doing things you hear about but here they were, live, in the flesh, on West 18th street taking in the spectacle of the Shops at Target and hanging out with all of us.

In this sea of celebrity and camera flashes, we had the distinct pleasure to meet and chat with Martha Stewart about the Polka Dog Bakery Collection…the snocone in particular. It evidently was a favorite in the Stewart household.

We also shared thoughts on the Collection and the Shops concept in general with Target’s new CMO Jeff Jones, who was as gracious and engaging as they come.

We saw old friends and collaborating partners from Target and Hill+Knowlton that helped bring this whole thing to life. We ate some incredible short rib empanadas and delicious miniature lobster rolls, listened to some beats from Theophilus London, and finished the night with a few tunes from….wait for it….Wilson Phillips. Yep, that Wilson Phillips. Hold on!

In the end we shared the spotlight with our families and our spouses and made memories to last a lifetime.

The Polka Dog train rolls on.
