Recently we’ve had lots and lots of people asking for the skinny on Polka Dog’s two retail stores in the Boston area, Polka Dog Bakery South End and Polka Dog Bakery Jamaica Plain, where seven days a week you can dig up pretty much anything and everything you’ve ever imagined for both your dog and cat.
Of course, if you’re in another state wondering where to buy Polka Dog Treats or are an insomniac that prefers to shop from your couch while watching reruns of Bewitched you can always order any of our homemade Polka Dog products online day or night at www.polkadog.com. But, if you’re looking for some real honest-to-goodness on the ground Polka Dog retail therapy, here’s how to scratch the itch:
Polka Dog South End (617-338-5155) is located at 256 Shawmut Ave, between E. Berkeley and Union Park Streets, two doors down from South End Formaggio and around the corner from the official off-leash Joe Wex dog recreation space.
The South End hours are M-F 10:00-7:30, Saturday 10-7, and Sunday 10-6.
Parking near the store can sometimes be limited due to neighborhood parking regulations and our favorite friends the street sweeping brigade, so pay attention to signage, and, if you’re stuck driving in circles around the block a la European Vacation, check out a parking meter on either Tremont or Washington Street, both a quick block away.
Polka Dog JP (617-522-1931) is the younger of the PDOG siblings (a mere 14 in dog years), but no less impressive and just as worthy of a visit if you live out this way or happen to be in the hood. Our JP outpost is located at 42 South Street, a wee bit past the monument in Jamaica Plain and across the street from Harvest Co-op and Fiore’s Bakery
The JP store hours are M-F 10:00-8:00, Saturday and Sunday 10-7.
Parking in JP is usually pretty easy, depending on the day and time. If you’re stuck, try the big lot behind Blanchards down the road and make an event of strolling down Centre and South streets to discover all the cool things JP has to offer.
Aside from the veritable treasure chest of scrumptious and exotic dog treats from our own kitchen and from kitchens far and wide, both Polka Dog shops offer an enormous variety of the best in all-natural food, top of the line accessories, and, let’s face it, the friendliest, most knowledgeable gosh darn animal people in the business.
So, if you’re local, load up the hounds and come on by. If you’re not, why not check out cheap fares to Boston and make a vacation out of it. We’d love to meet you and we’d bet the house whatever you bring back for your best friend will make them think you’re the greatest hunter in the world.
